Christian Matchmaker offers some unique features for Christian singles but has been targeted by scams for its free messaging feature
Christian Matchmaker has one of the largest subscriber bases among faith-based dating sites. The Christian singles site gets upwards of 74,000 unique visitors a month, fairly evenly split among men and women. The site was one of the first religious dating sites to launch and offers some features you won’t find on other online dating sites.
The fact that Christian Matchmaker is open to all denominations sets it apart from other sites like CatholicMatch and J-Date which are more limited in member beliefs. Your own beliefs and denomination may not match exactly with other Christian singles on the site but all share the basic belief in Christ.
What is Christian Matchmaker?
Christian Matchmaker is the fourth faith-based online dating site I’ve reviewed. I was generally happy with the experience on my free trial but might recommend a few of the other dating sites first. Christian Matchmaker was launched in 1996 as a safe place for Christian singles to meet online and start a relationship. The site offers chat rooms and all the typical features to help you meet your match.
The online dating site accepts profiles of any Christianity-based denomination including Evangelists, Catholics, Protestants, and Greek Orthodox. The openness of the site is a welcome change from other religious dating sites that only allow the doctrine of one church or denomination.
One of the best features of Christian MatchMaker is the free trial. The site is one of the few to allow messaging to free trial subscribers. While this is a great feature that can allow you to connect with other Christian singles for free, it also opens the site up to scammers. I’ve read quite a few complaints about messages from profiles in Africa and Asia asking singles for money. The site has been working to delete these profiles but the free messaging feature makes it a target.
Paid members are allowed access to premium features and have their profile ranked higher in search. The site offers discounts for longer-term subscriptions and is about middle-of-the-road when it comes to price. The cost of a one-month membership is $29.95 though the more popular three-month membership will save you 50% a month ($19.98 per month).
The things I like about Christian Matchmaker
Christian Matchmaker hosts thousands of profiles of active, Christian singles looking for love and marriage with a person who shares their faith. The site is one of the few to have a mobile app that is easy to use and doesn’t crash and it was relatively quick to work through the sign-up process.
Mobile App: Christian Matchmaker has a Mobile App for Android and iOS, so even if you are not in front of your computer, you can still get updates on your profile and from other Christian singles.
Simple Sign-Up: The site isn’t the easiest to use, but the sign-up process is very straightforward and doesn’t require much effort or time. After completing the usual questionnaire and filing out your profile information (picture is optional), you’ll be ready to start looking for possible matches.
Free membership: At Christian Matchmaker, free members can message other members, which is a rare feature with non-paying users in dating sites.
The things I don’t like about Christian Matchmaker:
It is impossible to ignore some of the bad reviews Christian Matchmaker has gotten over the years. Online for 20 years and hosting more than a million profiles of Christian singles, you’re going to have a few disgruntled customers. Some of the reviews I read seemed spammy and unwarranted while others pointed to a few flaws on the site.
Some of the complaints I’ve seen seem to be a result of high expectations for the site. Look, nobody can guarantee you a match especially in a limited amount of time. Try out a few of the free trials on dating sites in our online dating comparison chart before you pay for a subscription anywhere.
Profiles with no pics: Many of the profiles on Christian Matchmaker don’t have a picture. A lot of these are from spammy profiles from Africa and Asia and really the biggest complaint about Christian Matchmaker. Since the site allow so many features to free members, it’s targeted by scammers from these regions. Your best bet is just to ignore any profile without a picture.
Site Design and Usability: Most members agree that the site’s overall layout should be updated. A friendlier design, as irrelevant as it may seem, can make the experience more enjoyable.
Christian Matchmaker Review Summary
For a faith-based dating site, Christian Matchmaker delivers on the goal of connecting Christian singles. The site offers messaging to free trial members and a money-back guarantee to paid members.
I liked the free messaging during my Christian Matchmaker review but it did seem to lead to some of the problems users complain about. There is a way around these complaints, don’t respond to any messages outside your own country and ignore profiles without a picture. If you are looking for a relationship with another Christian single, these distance profiles probably wouldn’t be a good match anyway. The religious dating site does offer a large profile base so give it a free trial before paying for a subscription on some of the other faith-based dating sites.
